Brhh...it's a chilly one!

Hello friends

Brhhh it's a chilly card today!
This is Tree and Winter Canopy.

http://hopeandchances.co.uk/shop/lene-lok-designs/four-seasons-collection-four-seasons-tree/
http://hopeandchances.co.uk/shop/christmas/four-seasons-collection-winter-canopy/
The seasonal canopies designed by Lene Lok are delightful but I do admit
the winter one is my favourite, it could have something to do with the reindeer.

My card has silver and white mats (6 x 6 Matting Basics).
The tree is cut from both silver and white, I've inked the white tree
with distress inks and placed the silver behind as a shadow.

I also cut the reindeer from white card and used distress inks to colour.
There is two shaped dies for the snow, I layered these over the branches.

Then the dilemma of where to place snowflakes!
Five different snowflake dies come with this die set, all lovely.

An alternative Christmas card or maybe winter birthday, New Year?
Tree is available on the website here.
Winter Canopy is available here.

As I post this I'm heading out the door to drive to the Cotswolds,
hoping for a dry weekend although eating chocolate doesn't have
to really rely on the weather!

Take care friends, enjoy your Saturday.

Friday Die Day

Hello friends

It is Friday and in my world that can only mean...
Friday Die Day!
This week I'm featuring one of the Chantilly Paper Lace dies -
A three piece die set that can be nested or used individually.
All of these Chantilly Paper Lace dies designed by Becca Feeken
have been inspired by French lace.

This is how this set looks cut/embossed.

I prepared my card base with patterned paper matting,
lots of distressing at the edges.

The papers are from this paper pad from the 99p store!
I often take a  look at their crafty bits and occasionally find a little gem.

I mounted the largest die cut with foam pads.
The stamped sentiment is Altenew.

The finishing touch is little flowers (Swallow and Heart die set).

A die that looks effective used both vertically or horizontally,
also thinking switching those little flowers to mini poinsettias = Christmas card!

Hannah Elise is in stock and on the website here.

Other beautiful Chantilly Lace dies can be viewed here.
Bella Rose has been very very popular!

Wishing you all a great weekend, I'm heading to the Cotswolds
with my crafty bunch of girls, it's a chocolate indulgence weekend!

Take care friends.

This is a card I created with Annabelle's Trousseau, simply cut from
ivory card and mounted onto patterned paper.
It showcases the die design beautifully.

Made a start on your Christmas cards yet...?

Hello friends

Are you making your Christmas cards this year?
If so, along with special intricate cards you may like a quick and easy design.
Using the Spellbinders 3D shading stamps couldn't be easier
and that's me saying that...I'm really not a stamper!
I'm so impressed with the finished look of these stamps.
We've managed to restock certain designs and this is one of them.
This is Wreath, stamped onto wide cardstock (6 x 6 Matting Basics)
and lightly coloured with pens.

The little fir cones look so detailed with the shading.

3D Wreath Stamp is available on the website here.
Further 3D stamps can be seen here.

Please stop by tomorrow everyone - it's Hump Day Giveaway :)

Take care friends.

Advent Kits and more...

Hello friends

Thank you for all the lovely comments on yesterday's post,
the letter written by Great Uncle Walter is a treasured possession,
I did attempt to locate a photo of him in service through
the various forces websites but I'm still looking.
I have lots of memories of him as I was growing up,
he and his wife Dorothy retired to Ramsgate and lived in the
most pristine bungalow I've ever seen!

Today I'm going to mention Christmas approaching,
(42 days...I know it's coming around so quickly)!

But this does lead me neatly on to mentioning Advent Kits!
I started doing these a few years ago and they've always proved popular.

There is available advent kits, frames
and individual boxes available on the website.
If you are new to my blog/website you may not have seen these.

There is a full kit available that consists of :

Wooden frame
25 cut/embossed box bases - ivory pearlised cardstock, 300gsm
25 cut/embossed box lids (paper design is Simple Stories - December Documented)
25 small decorative patterned labels
Ready made circular numbers 1-25
Full instructions

To create, it's as simple as folding the boxes and lids,
assembling with your chosen adhesive,
attaching labels and numbers.
A fun project to do with children too.More details are here.

Over the years I've had requests for frames only, they are available here.
Or if you already own a frame and would like updated/replacement box components,
you can purchase those here.

Also the numbers on their own are available, details here -
these can be printed in burgundy or green - make sure you
request what colour when you order please.

I've had one of these frames up for my boys every year,
I enjoy shopping for all the little treats and add coins, chocolates
and sometimes little promise notes of things to do in the New Year.

Take care friends and have a great start to the week.

Remembrance Sunday

Hello friends

On this important day I thought I would share something
with you, a little bit of my family history.

This is a letter written home from my Great Uncle Walter,
also known as Sapper Walter Woodward No.14539513
He wrote this letter home to his Mum whilst on active service,
28 June 1945.  We don't know for sure where he was when he wrote this
but he does state seven thousand miles from good old England.

Impressive handwriting but for ease I have typed a transcript of the letter below.

My Dear Mother.

Just a few lines hoping this letter will find you all in the best of health
as it leaves me the same at present.  Well Mother the weather is not too bad here
but we keep on getting showers of rain.
Well Mum my Dolly told me about Bill having fourteen days,
all I hope he does not come out here,it is not so good out here as people paint it.
Well I expect my brother Len is still in Holland, please remember me to him when you
write to him.  Well Mother, my mate and I went to town on Wednesday June 27 and
we did have a good feed, what do you think we had? A leg of chicken and two
eggs for dinner and the same for tea so we did not do so bad did we.
Well how is little Brian getting on, I bet he is just as saucy as ever.
Well Mother, I expect your little garden begins to look nice now.
Please will you give my love to all at home.
Well Mother, I will be glad when I can come home again and see you all once
more like I used to do.  Nobody knows what it is like to be right away
from home, seven thousand miles from good old England.
All I can say is it is a shame that men like me should come out here
while there is tens of thousands of young men in England.
Well Mother, do not worry about me as I am OK so now I must say
good afternoon and God bless you all from your loving Son
Walter.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I've read this letter many times, it moves me how the language is fairly formal
but also there is a true sense of sadness and genuine home sickness.
Some of the references:
Dolly (Dorothy is his wife) they married and were both together till very old age.
He refers at one point to ' how is little Brian getting on', this is my Dad,
he's all grown up now!

A snippet of history written many years ago by a very young man,
in a strange place wishing he was at home.
Who could possibly know that one day his letter would be shared via technology
that would be way beyond his wildest imagination.

Take care friends.

Four Seasons Silhouettes and my guest...

Hello friends

A superb die set depicting each season, great for mini cards
or toppers for larger cards.

Beautiful projects to look through.
I particularly like the winter card, maybe because I'm beginning
